Obama: A “Footnote” in History?

The Presidential Seal

The primaries are looking pretty good for Romney this year. He seems like a nice enough man, with a good business sense.

But I’m disappointed, which I suppose is a part of every campaign.  I refer to his statement that “Barack Obama“, the first African American President of the United States, will be a “Footnote in History”?

Smart Republicans like Romney,  surely understand the historic importance of the first African-American President, regardless of whether they approve of his politics?

But, in this world of sound bites, there isn’t time for  even a gracious tip of the hat to racial progress. Obama and the historical accomplishments he represents are dismissed as mostly “Liberal” gains, when all of us could be rejoicing in this tremendous step forward.

Most of the Republican leaders, in their eagerness to qualify as Conservatives, meaning “to conserve and not change…”, are falling all over themselves appealing  to the lowest instincts in our people.

In my opinion, the Party that was willing to change a slave-owning country into a country of freed people, and now  seems to openly loathe everything “Obama, is being corrupted by its leaders willing to pander to our lowest instincts; fear, envy, jealousy, greed, to carry out its

This is just one of the reasons that I feel I am in a free fall from my Republican roots…with rarely any common ground to bind me to them or frankly any political party.

I realize that none of us are pure in heart, and it is surely tempting for a politician to fall in with special interests. But, I want to choose a president who has a proven record of  working for a broad segment of society, not just the lobbyists and personal gain.

What about Obama?  Was his election as the First African-American President, enough? This will certainly assure him more than a “Footnote in History”, let’s hope that his positive accomplishments will fill the history books as he serves the American people accomplishing good for a majority.

    • Of course, I don’t share your opinion about Obama, but your website looks interesting and strangely balanced! My son just moved to Charlotte and is working for US Airways.
