A Two State Peace Solution for Israel/Palestine

The West Bank: Dark Green Areas Under Palestinian Authority; Light Green, Area C Under Israeli Control

Israeli Elder Statesman, Shimon Peres, said in a radio interview yesterday, that he believed in the “Two State Solution” for Israel/Palestine.

Simply put, that means Israel would maintain its Country/State and Palestine would establish its own Country/State within the 1967 boundaries (set by the UN), Gaza, and East Jerusalem.

This sounds complicated and it is; Security for Israel is the greatest concern and a valid one.

However, if you look at the current Green Line/West Bank configuration; the fact that the Palestinian Authority doesn’t have authority or even access over much of the West Bank; the many Israeli settlements being placed within the West Bank; the devastating destruction of Palestinian homes, farms and villages; the fact that East Jerusalem is largely populated by Arabs.

The current condition breeds deep resentment among all Palestinians and the entire Arab/Muslim world and has since 1948.

Again, simply put, there seem to be two obvious solutions: Continue to hold rigidly to a plan that has not succeeded in sixty years and fostered fear, hatred, hostility and violence; or make a good faith effort towards a new plan advocated by many friends of Israel in the world.

I love both the countries of Israel and Palestine! They are my favorite destinations! I pray for a brighter future for them both!
