If You Want to “Take America Back”, See Ya Later

Protester at the March for America holds sign ...

I heard former Governor Tim Pawlenty of  Minnesota say on TV the other day that he was planning to “Take America Back”.

Now, he seems like a perfectly, nice man. I know nothing about his personal policies, but I always get a little laugh when I hear this. Just how far back does he expect to go?

Well, I truly understand what he means.

He’s not the first person I’ve heard say this; A long list of politicians are saying it. It all comes down to: Taking it back…from the ‘edge of hell’, ‘from destruction’, ‘from their definition of Socialism’….’from Obama‘.

Today, I read the opposite. A man in our town of Ithaca, NY wants to “Take America back from the Tea Party”. He proceeds to count the ways…’Planned Parenthood‘, ‘Public Broadcasting System (PBS)’, the ‘Environmental Protection Agency‘, etc.

People like these guys have already helped me make my decision.

If any candidate running for office says they will be “taking anything back”, I doubt they’ll get my vote.

I don’t want to go “back” at all… I want to move forward, improve our country, make it better.

I lived ‘back” in the “old” days and they were NOT best, especially for some. The present ways are NOT perfect, either.

We can do this life better, in ways that are kinder and more just to all members of our society, whether they are liberal or conservative; white or ‘of color’; blue or white collar; needy or doing well; people of faith or without; and yes, people with clear gender roles or not.

So don’t take me back to “good old days”.  I want our politicians and voters to know history and benefit from it.

I’m 63 years old, and have not lost the desire to hear a new song;  not the same old lame one!

How about you? You don’t have to agree with me to comment. I’ll receive your comment with kindness :=)

  1. Started hearing this comment, “Lets take America back,” after Obama became president. Doesn’t make sense at all. It’s a real slam to our president. It’s like this country can be tossed around, here and there, and just because it’s not in conservative hands, then its complained about to the highest degree as if it is their country.
