That’s Not So Funny

Cover of "Religulous"

Cover of Religulous

Many people find Political Satirist, Bill Maher, funny.

Me, not so much.

Often, his jokes are harsh and dismissive of Conservatives and warmly held traditions; his film, Religulous for instance, took the worst of the Evangelical/Fundamentalist world as representative of people of faith.

Though I watched the film and agreed with much of it, anyone with any experience at all could clearly see the undisguised bias which was passed off as “Gospel”.

So, I assumed he would hold a consistent liberal bias.

That is why I was so surprised to find him soft pedaling the Israeli Occupation.

I expected more courage from him, especially when comedian Jon Stewart (who is also Jewish, Maher’s mother was Jewish) has consistently stood against AIPAC and the Jewish Lobby.

So, it turns out, Bill Maher, who always seemed willing to stand against the status quo, is essentially marching with  Zionist Christians like Conservative John Hagee when it comes to US Policy in Israel.

What strange bedfellows.
